About Cosmetic Dentistry
Having a spectacular and breathtaking smile is about more than just looking good – it’s about feeling confident and good about yourself and taking the initiative for your health. Cosmetic dentistry has grown significantly in popularity over the last few years for those looking to improve their teeth’ function, health, and appearance.
Veneers
A veneer is a thin layer of porcelain cemented onto the front surface of your existing tooth and made to match your natural tooth shape and colour. Veneers are minimally invasive and can change the size, shape and colour of your teeth. Veneers can give you the smile you’ve always dreamed of having with a natural look and feel.
Veneers can be done on a single tooth and also on multiple teeth to change the look of an entire smile. They require no additional care beyond regular brushing, flossing and visits to your dentist.
What problems do veneers fix?
Veneers are best used on anterior teeth to fix cracks, gaps, chips, discolouration and other aesthetic problems. Other concerns they treat include:
- Discoloured teeth from root canal treatment, excessive fluoride (Fluorisis) or exposure to certain drugs
- Chipped or broken teeth
- Irregularly-shaped teeth
- Large gaps between teeth
Who is a candidate for veneers?
- Those with good oral health, minor, aesthetic tooth problems or a damaged smile are good candidates for veneers.
- Crowns are more suitable for patients with a worn-down bite and who suffer from severe attrition and abrasion on their teeth.
- Candidates should not be missing any teeth to qualify for veneers. However, if you are missing teeth, click here to read about dental implants.
Our goal is to help everyone achieve their perfect smiles. Contact us today to set up a consultation and discuss whether veneers would suit you.
Crowns
Crowns are used to repair extensive chips, cracks and broken teeth. They are also required when there is not enough natural tooth structure remaining or to replace old crowns.
Crowns don’t require any special care beyond your typical good hygiene practices. Make sure to brush your teeth twice daily and floss.
What problems do crowns fix?
- Restoring broken or damaged teeth
- Protection of potentially weak teeth
- Supporting teeth with large fillings
- On top of dental implants
- Covering for cosmetic purposes
- Holding a bridge in place
Crowns will last, if you
- Avoid biting your nails
- Don’t chew ice
- Avoid opening packaging with your teeth
- Try not to grind your teeth
